What these state costs represent
The table below uses 2024 Cost of Care survey medians for a semi-private room and a private room. These are state-level benchmarks, not quoted prices for an individual nursing home. Actual rates vary by location, room, care needs, contract and payer.
Facility ratings, inspections and staffing on NursingHomes.us come from the July 2026 CMS snapshot. Cost survey dates and CMS reporting periods are different, so we label them separately rather than presenting them as one current-price dataset.

What may be included—or charged separately
A base rate may cover the room, meals, routine nursing care and standard activities, but contracts differ. Ask about therapy, medications, physician services, transport, supplies, personal care items, salon services, private-duty aides and bed-hold charges. Compare written estimates using the same care assumptions.
Medicare, Medicaid and private payment
Medicare may cover qualifying skilled nursing facility care for a limited period when its conditions are met; it generally does not pay indefinitely for custodial long-term care. Medicaid can cover eligible long-term nursing home care, but financial and functional eligibility rules are state-specific. Long-term care insurance and private funds may also be used.
